Falling fuel prices are driving many people away from fossil fuel-powered vehicles. Hence the demand for electric models among alternative fuels is increasing day by day. But even in this case the problem did not go away. The high cost of battery cars continues to poison the market. However, in 2023, some cars are going to hit the market in India which is going to be the most affordable model in the country. This report also identifies the top four upcoming electric cars in India.
Tata Tiago EV
The Tiago EV is the third electric model in Tata Motors’ portfolio. And so far, the hatchback has emerged as the cheapest electric model in the country. Its price starts at Rs 8.49 Lakh (Ex-showroom). It is available in 19.2 kWh and 24 kWh battery options. Their range on a single charge is 250 km and 315 km respectively. It takes 5.7 seconds to accelerate from 0-60 kmph. The top end model of Tata Tiago EV is priced at Rs 11.79 lakh (ex-showroom). Its delivery will start from January 2023.
On 8 September, Mahindra introduced its first SUV model, the XUV400. It will be introduced in the market in January 2023. It uses a 39.4 kWh battery pack. Which will help the electric motor to generate 150 bhp of power and 3100 Nm of torque. It will give a range of 456 km on a single charge. The battery will be charged from 0 to 80 percent in 50 minutes through 50 kW fast charging. The price of Mahindra XUV400 is expected to be Rs 15-20 lakh.
Tata Punch EV
Tata’s next electric model could be the Punch EV. Seeing the increase in the sales of this mini SUV model of the IC model, Tata plans to launch a battery operated model this time. Upon launch, it will differentiate between the Tigor EV and the Nexon EV. This car will be based on the company’s ALFA platform. It is expected to enter the Indian market in the first half of 2023. The Tata Punch EV will compete with the upcoming Citroen C3 EV.
Tata Harrier EV
Currently, there are rumors in various quarters about the launch of the Tata Harrier EV in the market. If the news is true, the car is expected to hit the market in the second half of 2023. This electric SUV can be based on the company’s Omega-Arc platform. While the detailed specifications are yet to be revealed, the Harrier EV is expected to be priced between Rs 24-26 lakh (ex-showroom).
