BGMI Ban Update: Gaming companies krafton requested to unban the Game from PM Modi
After the government directed Google and Apple to ban the popular Battle Royale game Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), some gaming companies have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting him to do a ‘fair treatment to boost the gaming ecosystem in the country. Gaming platforms have requested the government to give “uniform and fair treatment to all entities operating in India”, according to sources.
“While capital and infrastructure are important for the survival and development of the industry, establishing a strong gaming ecosystem in India requires leading global video gaming companies with their experience and next-generation technology,” read the letter. “More is needed for a clear standard and framework to ensure fairness and uniformity for all stakeholders. The industry seeks to actively engage with the government in forming a robust set of video game-centric policies based on global best practices,” the letter noted.
Late last month, the government ordered Google and Apple to block BGMI gaming apps from their respective online stores under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Game developer Krafton recently announced that BGMI has surpassed 100 million registered users in India. The letter sought Modi “advice and guidance on working towards a more comprehensive dialogue and discussion in the future” and sought urgent intervention in the matter.
